Sharks and the cultures of Oceania are intrinsically tied together,  from Dakuwaqa, the Shark God of Fiji who defends the islands, to the aumakua of Hawaii who can be ancestral spirits in Native Hawaiian religious beliefs.

In American tiki culture, sharks are similarly, if infrequently, represented in the ceramic mugs that adorn the watering holes that dot the American landscape.

All the profits from this mug are donated to shark conservation efforts, and each comes with a tiki drink recipe I invented – the “Blue Guadalupe” – to honor the great white sharks who swim the waters off of Isla Guadalupe, Mexico.   The drink is blue like the waters and has a bite like the sharks.
