Sharks and the cultures of Oceania are intrinsically tied together,  from Dakuwaqa, the Shark God of Fiji who defends the islands, to the aumakua of Hawaii who can be ancestral spirits in Native Hawaiian religious beliefs.

In American tiki culture, sharks are similarly, if infrequently, represented in the ceramic mugs that adorn the watering holes that dot the American landscape.

All the profits from this mug are donated to shark conservation efforts, and each comes with a tiki drink recipe I invented – the “Spinner Shark” – to honor the schools of sharks who swim the Gulf Stream waters of Florida each year on their grand migrations.
